FAQ

What materials do you use?

Depending on the desired texture and intended use, I use different types of yarn for my crochet projects.

For blankets, crochet cardigans, tablet and book cases I usually use
“Stylecraft Special DK”, a super soft and comfortable high-quality acrylic yarn. It is washable at up to 40°C and is therefore also suitable for baby blankets.

For triangular scarves, shawls and mandalas I use
so-called yarn cakes (german: Bobbel) made from a yarn mix of 50% cotton and 50% acrylic.

For smaller projects, like my
pride keychains and rainbow handbags I use pure
cotton yarn.

Where do you buy the gradient yarn for the gorgeous shawls?

I'm happy you asked! I buy my gradient yarn cakes at a webshop in Germany called "Megabobbel". Francis, the owner, has a great selection of color combinations and really fair prices. She pays special attention to sustainable packaging and offers really good service in general.

You can chose the desired length and thickness of the yarn. And the colours, too, of course. I only have great things to say about Megabobbel!

So, feel free to browse through the Megabobbel webshop at www.megabobbel.de

How long does it take you to finish one of your crochet projects?

That's a very good question, but one I can't answer in general terms, as I rarely finish a project in one go. What I can say is that good things take time.

Factors such as project size, stitch type, yarn thickness, needle size and complexity of the pattern all come into play. And don't forget the ever-popular task of sewing in the ends...

Roughly speaking, it takes me...

  • Crochet bag rainbow: ~ 6-8 hours
  • Crochet shopping net: ~ 8-10 hours
  • Crochet bag flowers: ~ 20-25 hours
  • Crochet shawl: ~ 35-75 hours
  • Crochet blanket (approx. 120x180cm): ~ 80-100 hours

Are you wondering why the time spans for the individual projects vary this much? Well, especially with crocheted shawls and blankets, it depends a lot on the size and complexity of the pattern. And apart from the factors I mentioned above, I, as the crafter, also have good and not so good days. "I'm only human after all..."
